Measurement and Mensuration

Yardsticks, yardsticks, yardsticks. Everywhere. Everyone needs to measure anything and everything. Marks, salary, age, height, weight, and so much more. Comparisons. So much to measure the so many of us.

Okay. You don’t have to believe me right away. Hear me out. I was just born, from that moment they started measuring everything about me, I am not talking about weight, height, and other such things, from the first words I said they started measuring, how early you said it, how long you took to walk, how well you spoke and lot other such things. Then, you went to school, now they started measuring your intelligence (yeah! That’s what schools do, and they do not give out knowledge there). They are the people who give you, your measurement reports. Now, I don’t blame them because we are the ones that ask for these measurement reports right? You need your measurement when your relatives are measuring you na?? How can you answer the question “Which rank are you in class?” when some uncle or auntie ask, without such a report?! Your mark measures your intelligence according to them (not just them but all). And then the board exams come with a huge scale to the point who is intelligent and who is a dunce.

Maybe you score pushing the end of the measuring scale and get into college. Well! Measuring will stop now right?? NO!! Back to measuring “What is your CGPA?” “What is your percentage?” “Which company are you placed in?” “What is your project on?” now again, you begin to give out values to all these measuring questions and you enter the REAL WORLD believing that it is the end of measuring.

Ha ha ha... :D How did you ever think that was possible in this world?? Funny. “How much do you make?” “What is your position in the company” “How large is your apartment?” “What car do you have?” “Are you married?” “How many children have you brought into this wretched world?” and many such more measuring questions. Even if you die they measure you by how good your grave looks like (anyway that is not in your control). We spend our entire lifetime giving values to the measurement the society wants. Appraisals are not only in working place, it is everywhere.

Yeah, the Society needs to put you in your place in it so it has to take such measurements; we are social animals aren’t we? So we have to do such things because the society mandates us to do them? To point out we spend all our life living for giving out values for these measurements. For each choice we make it is not a question of “do I like it?” but “will the society think big of me in their measuring scale?”. Our surrounding dictates how peacefully we are to live! Choose wisely; live for yourself (Of course! I am telling you to be selfish). But have some ideals to take your decisions based on it!

The truth is, what is more, is less, for someone who has plenty and what is less, is more for someone who has nothing. There is another band of people for whom plenty, more, or nothing, doesn't really matter. For them society is not what makes them but they make the society!
